Code of conduct

Southern Caribbean Fiber (SCF) is the telecommunications operator that operates the most recent and secure submarine cable in the Caribbean. SCF relies on 18 points of presence connecting the Caribbean islands of: Trinidad, Grenada, St Vincent, Barbados, St Lucia, Martinique, Dominica, Guadeloupe, Antigua, Montserrat, St -Kitts, St Barths, Saint -Martin, St. Croix, Puerto Rico. SCF also offers connectivity to Miami, New York and Paris.

SCF's network incorporates the assets of Middle Caribbean Network, Southern Caribbean Fiber and Antilles Crossing as well as fiber pairs from Global Caribbean Network. SCF is a fully owned Digicel Group subsidiary since September 10, 2014.

Southern Caribbean Fiber milestones

2005: As part of a public-private partnership between the Loret group and the Regional Council of Guadeloupe, Global Caribbean Network (GCN) initiates the delegation of public service to connect Guadeloupe, St-Martin and St-Barthelemy to Puerto Rico and St. Croix.

2006: The Loret Group undertakes to extend the GCN network with private funds through the MCN networks (Middle Caribbean Network and Southern Caribbean Fiber).

2007: Creation of a joint venture including the Antilles Crossing submarine cable system. Creation of a secure ring.

2008: The entire network becomes operational.

Today, all of the SCF, MCN and ACI networks are brought together under the SCF commercial brand, which has become a reference in the Eastern Caribbean since the breakdown of the existing monopolies. SCF offers a wide range of wholesale services to telecommunications operators in 19 points of presence and 15 islands in the Eastern Caribbean.

The submarine and terrestrial fibre optic networks built by ESAT, Ireland’s second telco created by Denis O’Brien and his team, in the late 1990’s were widely credited with fast-tracking the exponential growth in Ireland’s ICT industry and facilitating the hosting of European and global hubs in Ireland for companies such as Microsoft, Intel and Dell.

Following his sale of ESAT in April 2000, Mr. O’Brien formed Digicel with a strategic view of entering liberalising telecoms markets across the English-speaking Caribbean and breaking the monopoly which had been held for so long by Cable & Wireless.

Digicel quickly transformed the mobile telecommunications landscape across the Caribbean making affordable, world-class communications accessible to the entire population for the very first time. In more recent years, Digicel has evolved to become a leading total communications and entertainment provider. Since our inception, we have focused on investing in recently liberalised markets.

On 10th September 2014, Digicel completed its acquisition of Southern Caribbean Fiber and acquired the subsea fibre assets in the Eastern Caribbean region. This acquisition provided Digicel with a wholly owned subsea fibre optic cable network providing capacity from Trinidad to Puerto Rico, with onwards connectivity to the United States and Europe. Digicel also welcomed a team of highly experienced and knowledgeable resources in subsea business and operations.
